Garmin comes through for couple lost in the woods
The couple likely followed the Bootjack trail along the Redwood Creek that flows towards the entrance of Muir Woods park. You can see the creek on the map. They were only a half-mile from a road when I found them, so they probably would have found someone driving on Panoramic if they kept hiking up the mountain — but you never know. It is a steep hillside with gigantic redwoods everywhere so you can get really turned around — check out the satellite and terrain views on the map.
Apparently, the couple called 911 before their cell battery died to say they were lost in the park. Nice couple — she was from Brazil and he was from Argentina. They will be buying some Garmin devices soon for their next adventure.
