Interbike_926_042Two Garmin engineers who work on the Edge and other fitness products made this trepidatious trek through the rocky, scrub-brushy desert trail. Tom’s our resident mountain biking expert and though he’s done about everything else on a bike (see previous post), he’d never done a night bike ride before. “I was living on a prayer out there, mostly,” Tom said. See Tom’s ride in MotionBased. Nonetheless, Tom hung with a pack of about 15 riders, including the celeb rider for the night, Tinker Juarez. Tinker has a phenomenal racing resume topped by 4 time US 24-hour solo champ and 2-time Olympian. The other Garminite in the group, Dave, is more a road cyclist/triathlete and this was his first night ride, but he finished with an enthusiastic “It was a blast. I’ve never had so much fun on a ride.” And I think he would’ve gone back and done it all over again … and again if we’d let him. Several riders commented on the beauty of seeing lit bikes snaking up the hillsides. Wish I could’ve seen it. Let’s just say this roadie needs a little a daytime mountain biking before she takes on a ride like this. After about 12 minutes of riding, one spill and a dim light growing dimmer by the minute, I was done. Today, looking forward to an early morning road ride and a little more time at the product show. More coverage to come.
