Feature Focus: Backlight and Audible Alert on vívofit 2
Vívofit 2 will be in stores soon and we are highlighting two new features in the daily activity tracker that should entice you to move more: backlight and audible alerts.
The original vívofit released in 2014 and the engineering team at Garmin has been hard at work creating the next iteration. There are a lot of new features in vívofit 2, but here is some insight on why backlight and audible alerts were added.
The backlight was a necessary feature this time around for Jon Hemphill, Product Manager Consumer Products. Many users go for walks during the early morning hours or later at night and want to see their data. The team knew it was important to add this feature, but it couldn’t be at the cost of the size of vívofit 2.
“We investigated how some of these new technologies would be able to display without changing the size of the products,” Hemphill said.
There’s also an audible alert feature on vívofit 2 in addition to the move bar that was introduced in the original vívofit. An alert sounds if you have been sitting for an hour. This is a great reminder to stand up and go for a walk! After you do that, the move bar will vanish.
“We want to create something that’s motivational with a healthy habit and a product that removes all barriers for it,” Hemphill said. “That’s an opportunity with this device on.”
