: Our third and final day
of ‘Crappie Camp’ would prove to be an entertaining one.  New fishing crew, new lake.  We set out on the Shenango
River Lake
, which is approximately a 3,500-acre
flood control reservoir.  The focus was,
again, on black and white crappie plus the chance for white bass and hybrid
stripers.  The weather was beautiful,
wind was calm and I had the chance to fish with Lou Consoli and Bill Decoteau.  Lou is a pro angler and owner of SkippyFish
lures
and Bill is an outdoor
journalist, speaker and photographer
.  These guys were a riot but we tried to keep
it moderately under control as to not scare any fish.

IMG_1134We sat on numerous embankments throughout
Shenango and finally started catching fish, primarily bass.  Slowly moving to different sections of the
lake, we hit a bit of a rough patch where we snagged our lines on rocks and
trees more than we had bites.
Unfortunately, we ended up experiencing some engine trouble on Lou’s
boat so we were subjected to trolling around for the remainder of the day.  Still, we continued on and ended up finding a
great area under a bridge where the bass were thick.  Since it was quite a bit windier, the current
was moving everything through this narrow passage and the bass were sitting
there, biting. Needless to say, we stayed on this spot for a quite a while
before heading in.

After everything was said and done, we caught about 15 fish on the final day, definitely making up for the lack of fish we’d
caught over the previous two.  We
also discovered that Dan had ended up catching over 75 crappie that afternoon
with his spider rigging method.  What an
amazing day for fishing!

All in all, the 2013 Crappie Camp was a success.  Even though Mother Nature didn’t want to
comply at first, everyone made the most of the situation and had a great time
doing so.  Thanks to Pymatuning and all the participants for a great experience to let us be a part of.  Happy Fishing!
