Conquer the hill

Tomorrow marks the 35th anniversary of a popular road race here in Kansas City – Hospital Hill. It’s one of the few races around that offer runners a choice of 5k, 10k or half marathon distances. About 40 Garmin associates will be among the throngs of runners testing their sanity and ability on the hillacious course. Thought this part of the country was flat? There may not be a Heartbreak Hill on this course, but there are several good climbs that may surprise first-timers. Garmin is a sponsor of the pace team leaders, who will all be sporting new Forerunner 405s to help them keep their groups on pace. If you’re among the 5,000 or so runners out there tomorrow, good luck and have fun flattening those hills. I’ll be there volunteering with one of my favorite charities — Girls on the Run. Some of the group’s young participants, volunteers and coaches will be offering a cheer and a cool drink to parched runners at the last aide station on the course.
