The Connect IQ Developer Summit enabled developers and companies alike to network with industry leaders and learn about the latest Garmin technology and Garmin app solutions in the active lifestyle field. Among attendees were current Connect IQ app developers including Strava, Uber, Accuweather, SmartThings, Trek and Training Peaks. Thanks, Nordic Semiconductor the wireless provider of choice for Connect IQ, for sponsoring the event..

Day 1: 4/18

Over 100 individuals flew in from around the world for the first ever Connect IQ Developer Summit held at Garmin Headquarters in Olathe, Kansas. After the attendees were dropped off at the hotel, they were greeted with a gift box filled with goodies from local Kansas city artisans and their complimentary with attendance CIQ enabled Garmin device, which set the stage with excitement for the next few days. While sipping on cocktails and enjoying light appetizers, registrants could walk through the room demo featuring one of the newest apps launching on the Connect IQ platform, SmartThings app which allows users to control their home through their Garmin Connect IQ compatible wearable device. Users can dim the lights, turn up the thermostat or lock the front door right from their wrist using their Connect IQ- enabled Garmin device.

Day 2: 4/19

We kicked off each morning with a morning group run led by Garmin fitness product engineers. We had around 25 runners join in on the fun! The first full day of the summit started with a CIQ video and a welcome presentation from Garmin CEO Cliff Pemble, followed by Garmin’s Fitness and Outdoor leadership presentations announcing four new Connect IQ features, a Kansas City famous Jack Stack BBQ lunch, and a state of the fitness industry presentation by Ray Maker, Founder of DC Rainmaker. Click here to watch his Keynote! The rest of the afternoon there were breakouts by Nordic Semiconductor, how Connect IQ interfaces with the Internet of Things, Developing Fitness apps for Connect IQ, and a workshop where developers created a watch face that talked to the Strava API.

In the evening, attendees were taken by shuttle to No Other Pub in Downtown Kansas City for a night of food, drink and games! Led by Garmin captains, teams competed in games such as shuffle board, darts, bowling, ping pong and more. This night gave attendants the chance to have fun and network with others.

Day 3: 4/20

The third and final day began with another group run followed by breakfast and shuttle from the hotel back to Headquarters. Nick Kral, Creator of Connect IQ gave a morning presentation on the future of Connect IQ. Other topics included Connect IQ on the Edge, Connect IQ in Actions with special guests, Uber John Park, Strava Mateo Ortega and Accuweather David Mitchell. Over 20 attendees stayed the weekend to enjoy the Garmin Marathon competing in the marathon, half marathon and 10k Saturday, May 22.

Thank you to all attendants and volunteers for making this event a success!
