Can Your Pilot App Do This?

In our modern tech-driven society, mobile phones and tablets are seemingly ground zero for the design of products (nee apps) that can make our day-to-day tasks easier. With one study showing the average person spends 90 minutes a day on their phone, it’s not difficult to understand why so much dedication is being given to these devices. When it comes to aviation apps, there are a several options that exist. Many perform a number of similar tasks: flight planning, sectional displaying, and even flight-logging. Our pilot app does all of those things, but for the particular pilots out there looking for a well-rounded feature set in a single, affordable package look no further than Garmin Pilot. Here are a few things Garmin Pilot can do that many others cannot.

Geo-Referenced Jeppesen Charts

We’ve partnered with aviation charting powerhouse Jeppesen to bring their world-class flight and terminal charts into the Garmin Pilot experience. And we didn’t just add the chart availability to our app, we included an overlay feature that will display your geo-referenced position on top of the chart. Could it get much better than that?

Database Concierge

Database Concierge allows pilots to easily update avionics databases.

Wireless connectivity is the name of the game. We’ve combined the convenience of wireless connectivity with the previously manual and burdensome avionics database updating process, to introduce our Database Concierge feature. When wirelessly connected to a GTN 750/650 touchscreen navigator via the Flight Stream 510 MultiMediaCard, current databases can be pushed from Garmin Pilot on a mobile device to panel-mounted avionics with the simple push of a button. Updating your databases has never been easier.

Calls/Text – inReach Integration

Many pilots see our inReach series of products as more of an emergency locator device than a personal communicator. We see it as both, and as such, tailored Garmin Pilot to take advantage of that. With an inReach Explorer+ or SE+ connected to a compatible device running Garmin Pilot, pilots can send and receive text messages from the cockpit. We also have several other avionics solutions that allow voice calls to be initiated from Garmin Pilot.

These are just a few features! Garmin Pilot boasts many other unique features including weather warnings, alternate selector guide, personal minimums, glide range ring, checklists and more. Garmin Pilot is available for both iOS and Android devices. Even though the feature set for the two operating systems are not identical yet, our development teams are in their lab coats working hard to continue introducing great features to all Garmin Pilot compatible devices. If you haven’t tried it yet, be sure to take advantage of our free 30-day trial period, and stay tuned for what we come up with next!
