Built to withstand the elements
You’ve heard us say before that when we’re developing products, we put them through extreme test conditions. We drop ’em, dunk ’em, freeze ’em, and heat ’em, and that’s just a few of the tests engineering puts products through. We’re proud that Garmin devices are rugged and can stand up to the challenges our customers give them – and we’re also proud to say that we partner with OEMs who put their products through the same rigorous tests, too.
The folks at SeaHunter Boats, a Garmin marine OEM partner, recently conducted a “torture test” of their own – a 20-foot drop of one of their 35-foot carbon/kevlar center console boats…on to the concrete. They wanted to prove that this boat was “unsinkable,” so they did the unthinkable to show customers that their boats are built to take a beating. Watch the video below as boating-guru and director of Boat Lab, Randy Vance, teams up with the crew at SeaHunter to drop their boat from 20 feet (for a crash impact in excess of 100Gs). But the fun doesn’t stop there. After surviving the drop with no major damage to the hull, the boat is taken out on the water for a sea trial, then brought back to the lab to be cut in half – literally – to prove it’s seaworthiness once again. Like the Garmin electronics that can be found on a SeaHunter, these boats are clearly made to withstand the elements.
