Behind the scenes of a Garmin ad shoot

Heather’s top goal for 2007 was to compete in an Ironman tri. That’s a 2.4-mile swim followed by 112 miles on the bike, rounded out by running a marathon — 26.2 miles. Lofty goal, and one Heather wasn’t going to dodge, even when she found out that registration was closed for all the Ironman series events in the U.S. No worries. She just signed up for Ironman France. Heather completed the 140.6-mile journey this June in a time of 13:50, earning 4th place in her age group. Heather has an impressive fitness resume that includes a marathon PR of 3:36 and a 5K PR of 21:17. She ran Boston this year; Chicago, Lincoln, Gobbler Grind KC and Grandma’s Marathon in 2006; Oklahoma City and Wichita in 2005, and Gobbler Grind KC in 2004. She’s a member of a couple of local multisport clubs, KC Multisport and World Multisport.

When she’s not swimming, biking or running, Heather helps athletes and other individuals in her job as an outpatient physical therapist. Currently, she’s training for the Redman Triathlon, another Iron distance tri, on Sept. 22. Next July, she plans to make another trip across the big pond to compete in the Ironman European Championships to be held in Germany. This tri girl’s going places. And since she trains with Garmin’s ultimate multisport training tool — the GPS-enabled Forerunner 305 Multisport — you can bet she’ll be making more podium appearances.
