Bad luck strikes McCumbee again
Friday looked like it was shaping up to be a great day for Chad McCumbee fans—until the very last few minutes, that is. After making a fantastic pass with just four laps to go, it looked like Chad and the #8 theGPSStore.com / Garmin truck had a clear view of victory lane ahead. It was two laps later, however, when things changed. After working around a clutch problem he had been fighting throughout the race, Chad was in the lead with two laps to go. As the green flag fell, Chad corrected his truck after battling the clutch issue again, and was rear-ended by another driver. The #8 truck pin-balled several others, and Chad, who started second, was out of his chance at a victory. "You feel like you got robbed a little bit," Chad said. Without bad luck, we had a legitimate chance to win two races in a row. That’s the most disappointing thing, when you made the right moves and drove the right race, but didn’t get the result out of it."
Nonetheless, it was great to see Chad perform how he did. We’ll catch up with Chad more later this week as he prepares for the Casino Arizona 150 at the Phoenix International Raceway.
