Ask Garmin: If I only had a heart-rate monitor

Edge305photo02 Forerunner305hr Today's Ask Garmin question comes from Chuck, who is hoping to outfit his fitness device. "A friend has an Edge 305 without heart rate or speed/cadence. I said he may be able to buy the heart-rate monitor or speed/cadence sensor separately. He said the unit probably does not have that capability. If he were to buy the accessories, would they in fact work?" Congratulations, Chuck, you win.

Forerunner405blackHR If you have one of our compatible devices – the Edge 705/305 or Forerunner 405/305/50 (even Oregon and Colorado units work with ANT+) — you can add a heart-rate monitor or speed/cadence sensor later. And because we know that Garmin fans may be upgrading from, for example, a Forerunner 305 to a Forerunner 405, we made the 405 available with or without a heart-rate monitor in the box. Since 305 owners already have the heart-rate strap, this option not only saves you money, it also saves you some space in your closet.
