A Recap of AirVenture 2014 with Garmin
The world’s largest airshow (also known as, the “world’s greatest aviation celebration”) in Oshkosh, Wisconsin is officially over but the products that were announced and friendships that were made will continue to thrive for years to come. For many of us, AirVenture is a chance to check out all of the latest aviation has to offer to make our flying safer, richer and even more rewarding. EAA AirVenture inadvertently serves as a reunion for many others, where we have the opportunity to catch-up with old college friends, swap flying stories over dinner with work colleagues, or talk plain ‘ol airplanes with a complete stranger.
For Garmin, Oshkosh remains fresh in our thoughts as we look forward to the coming months and even
AirVenture 2015! We were very excited going into last week where we had the opportunity to introduce Flight Stream 110/210. Flight Stream 110 allows pilots to display traffic and weather from a GDL 69/69A or GDL 88 within Garmin Pilot on a mobile device. Flight Stream 210 comes loaded with all of those features and adds two-way flight plan transfer capabilities between Garmin Pilot and GNS 430W/530W and GTN navigators. Based on the reaction of those who attended Oshkosh last week and received a live Flight Stream demo in the Garmin booth, our customers were very impressed and can’t wait to incorporate Flight Stream into their cockpit!
Of course we didn’t stop with the introduction of cockpit connectivity between Garmin Pilot and select Garmin avionics. Team X introduced a smaller, 7-inch G3X Touch display just in time for the show last week. Customers were thrilled to see that the 10.6-inch G3X Touch display now has a companion for added redundancy, which is ideal for panels where height and width constraints might be of concern.
VIRB also had an exciting presence in the Garmin booth at AirVenture. Video from VIRB was on display everywhere and demonstrated unique features such as overlays. With VIRB Elite, pilots may overlay airspeed, altitude and more within the video, truly offering a unique experience and demonstrating the thrill of each and every flight. Check out the overlays during a flight with VIRB from Michael Goulian.
From warbirds to the Thunderbirds, experimental amateur-built aircraft to Boeing 737’s, EAA AirVenture had all of the bases covered this year. All of us at Garmin would like to extend a "thank you!" to both the Experimental Aircraft Association and our customers for making this Oshkosh a record-breaking success!
