A Magnificent Night on the Magnificent Mile at the Garmin Chicago Store
Last night at our flagship retail store, on Michigan Ave. in Chicago, IL., we were honored to be joined by Team Garmin riders Christian Vande Velde and Tyler Farrar who helped us host cycling enthusiasts of all ages. The argyle clad standing room only crowd asked questions about what a world-class sprinter like Farrar looks for during the end of stages before launching into an all out sprint and questions to Vande Velde about his huge overall victory at this year’s USA Pro Cycling Challenge in Colorado. There were even questio
ns about what younger riders should focus on early in their careers, with Vande Velde suggesting that younger riders get into cyclocross to avoid some of the dangers of being out on the roads solo. We also chatted about the growth of cycling in North America and how riders like Vande Velde, Farrar and teammate Ryder Hesjedal have helped place more attention on this great sport. They said there are more and more youth and development cycling programs popping up, where future champions are putting in the miles and honing their skills. And fans loved the custom Team Garmin “Chicago” poster, calling it a frame worthy addition to their collections.
Be sure to cheer on Team Garmin and Dan Martin at the Tour of Beijing where he now holds the King of the Mountain Jersey (KOM) and sits third overall in the GC!
